Do you believe public policy should be guided by reason, evidence, and science? That lawmakers should maintain a secular government, without favoring one religion over another or the religious over the nonreligious? If so, please join us for the National Day of Reason event on May 2 at the State Capitol.

Humanist and advocacy groups will gather to observe the day, which honors the principle of separation of religion and state that has guided our country since its founding.

Continental breakfast will be served. Prof. David Schultz, Hamline University, will speak @ 10:15 a.m. about "American Politics in the Age of Ignorance: Why Lawmakers Choose Belief over Evidence." Legislators who have agreed to give remarks include Sen. John Marty and Reps. Jim Davnie, Raymond Dehn, Mike Freiberg, and Tina Liebling.

In Minnesota, we continue to witness the intrusion of religious ideology, and the denial of scientific knowledge, in critical areas including reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, climate change, vaccinations, medical aid in dying, religious displays in public schools, and cultural diversity.

Join Humanists of Minnesota, First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis, and Or Emet Minnesota Congregation For Humanistic Judaism to remind lawmakers to uphold our secular government as our Constitution mandates.
